Samantha McBain trained at the international law firm Lovells, qualifying in 1995 and working in the firm's London and Hong Kong offices. She spent four years in Lovells' City Litigation Department. She went on to practise for four years as a Senior Associate in the London office of a US law firm, in their Dispute Resolution Practice. Samantha joined the Innovate Legal team in December 2009.
Samantha has experience of a broad range of commercial matters in the High Court, both Queen's Bench and Chancery Division, including acting for manufacturing, banking and media companies on breach of contract claims, acting in the Commercial Court, the Technology and Construction Court (for property developers), advising on a number of intellectual property matters in the High Court and acting in solicitors' negligence claims. Samantha has also represented clients before the Court of Appeal and in the Privy Council.
Samantha has acted for clients on a number of mediations in the UK and in international arbitration, including a multi-million dollar arbitration in Switzerland for a significant family trust. She became an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in 2004 and is a member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association.
Samantha has experience in financial services disputes and regulatory investigations. She has advised the Takeover Panel and Investment Ombudsman on investigations and complaints. She acted for the former CEO of an international investment bank in disciplinary proceedings brought by IMRO and then the FSA, and has advised a major UK accountancy firm in relation to investigations by the FSA and the SEC in the US.
